Before you visit, you will need to register with Scottish Heritage to obtain a permit, they will record your vehicle registration and because the quarry is situated on private land, often check that any vehicles parked at this site match any permit. Visitors may also require to show their permit as proof for permission.

Head into the town of Spittal, and the quarry is clearly signposted, you cannot miss it, it is to the left. Follow the narrow lane all the way down and you will see another signpost pointing right to 'Achanarras Quarry' with a Heritage symbol on it, take this turning and follow the unmade track down, you will reach a small car park and the end with a signpost about the site.

You can either park here and walk to the top of the hill, or if you have one or two cars, then you can drive up to the gate at the top of the hill. Please note that it is a long walk if you decide to park and walk, but if you drive you will need to open and close several cattle gates. Once at the top, a signpost explains about the history and information on the quarry.
